Truth Behind Common Weight Loss Myths

The diet industry has survived and thrived for years on facts and fiction alike. The fiction aka the most common myths are at times disconcertingly self perpetuated and are downright untrue. Our desire to reduce weight and subsequent inability to do so has been preyed upon by the seductive promise of miracle cures and fringe products. Some common weight loss myths may surprise you a lot as most of these myths have been doing the rounds since ages.

Dieting the bane

Its utterly necessary to dispel such myths. It has now been proved that 80% of people gain back the weight lost during a self imposed horrendously rigorous fad diet. In fact let it be known that losing weight is a process not a crash course. Young teenagers today, intoxicated by the glitterati and the stick figurines claiming to represent human beauty, resort to unhealthy diets pushing their bodies to the limit and sometimes over the edge and in the process grievously injuring themselves. Skipping meals will accelerate weight loss.

This is a common weight loss myth which needs to be squashed.
Fast Foods

Fast food is always a big no-no when dieting. Everybody will confirm this. But the truth is stranger than fiction at times. So rejoice. And behold the greasy goodies. Fast food can be parts of a healthy diet regimen with a little prior know how. Try cooking fast food at home and a huge fraction of fats pull a disappearing act. What I mean to say is that, eat a burger cooked at home not the ones of mcd.

Are you NUTS?

Similarly nuts have a large amount of fats and therefore calories. But nuts in small servings are actually very good for health. Nuts have omega-3 fats called ALA (alpha linolic acid). These protective fats are found to reduce heart diseases and prevent heart attacks by reducing the formation of atherosclerotic plaque which clogs up the arteries. Further these ALA fats reduce cholesterol and triglyceride levels and decrease platelet aggregation.

Muscles vs fats

Another myth still very prevalent is that lifting weights will bulk you up and hence should not be attempted

while trying to lose weight. This is so not true. Doing crunches, pushups and lifting weights can build muscles and muscles will burn off more calories than fat.

Its Natural

Not really. If they claim its natural and herbal and what not, do not believe them. Chances are that the product is being churned out of stuff which can have adverse effects on your health. A natural and herbal product sold by your local hakims and babas are not scientifically tested and pronounced to be fit for consumption. Even if results are satisfactory or beyond belief then the chances that there are steroids (to induce lack of appetite) in it is very high.

Be aware and careful. And make sure that you invest wisely to gain advice from proper and authentic sources.
